Twenty cultural organisations in Sweden produce and distribute music of different styles, and from different cultures, to young audiences throughout the country. It is becoming increasingly important for these organisations to work with all of the fine arts as a whole, looking past the traditional boundaries between theater, dance and music. Many of the organisations which earlier where known as Länsmusikorganisasjoner are now part of larger institutions which have responsibility for regional cultural activities.

 

Sweden produces ca 4 000 school concerts anually, reaching an audience of about 100 000 children. Most of the producing organisations work with freelance musicians in groups of 1-9 persons. Many of these cultural organisation have their own ensembles, and these ensembles have young audiences as an established part of their activities in the form of school concerts and family concerts. Each regional organisation can decide if it will work primarily with freelance musicians or support permanent ensembles.

 

The mission of all of these organisations is to supply their regions with high-quality music productions for all age groups. Their work insures that people have access to the same cultural opportunities in rural districts as they do in large populations centers.

 

In addition to their artistic duties, the producers in the different organisations function as advisors for concert arrangers and other cooperative partners around the country.

 

 

Since 2011, Swedens regional music organisations have been linked to a national network - Jeunesses Musicales Sweden. This national network is, in turn, linked to an international network - Jeunesses Musicales International. The goal of the network is to contribute to a new and vital European culture, and work toward building competancy, furthering development and increasing inovation within the cultural sphere, with focus on music for, and with young audiences.

 

The regional organisations all recieve support from the Swedish National Council of Culture as well as from their respective regional authorities.
